Lockjaw
Lockjaw were another Raw Records signing but this time a drop in quality. Formed out of the ashes of ‘The Guernsey Flowers’, then changed their name to ‘The Amazing Doctor Octopuss’ before settling on Lockjaw. Lockjaw recorded two singles the first being Radio Call Sign / The Young Ones (1977 Raw Records). Average sounding but like the Angelic Upstarts makes a total mess of Cliff Richards ‘Young Ones’. Some songs should never be covered!
Their next single Journalist Jive / I’m A Virgin / A Doonga Doonga (Raw 1978) was unfortunately no better.
Band featured Simon Gallup, who would later to go on and join The Cure and indeed the two bands used to play togetherunder the billing of ” I know an Easy Cure for Lockjaw.”. Easy Cure being The Cure’s first name before they shortened it.
The band actually recorded a lot more songs at Spaceward for Lee Wood but they haven’t surfaced as yet.
