The Cuban Heels

Downtown/Smok Walk (Housewives Choice 1978)

With a name like The Cuban Heels and black polo necks like that they were never going to be exactly punky. Strange that eh?. Just as the Johnny & The Self Abusers single on Chiswick was pressed their manager rang Chiswick to say the band had split into two. The two bands were Simple Minds and John Milarkey joined The Cuban Heels as singer. Both bands were hoovered up by Virgin but whereas the latter stalled in 1981, the former became multi platinum selling and still going today.

A tolerable pop at the Dusty Springfield number.
